Hyades

Caldwell 41, the Hyades, is the nearest open star cluster to the Sun, about 153 light-years away in Taurus. Its brightest members form the distinctive V-shape that marks the face of the bull, with the orange giant Aldebaran appearing in the foreground (though Aldebaran is not actually a cluster member). Because it is so close and so large — spreading several degrees across the sky — the Hyades is best enjoyed with the naked eye or binoculars rather than a telescope. It appears as number 41 in Sir Patrick Moore's Caldwell catalogue.
